Pais de Poetas
Pais de Poetas (Country of Poets) is the title of the show opening tonight at the BRIC’s Rotunda Gallery.
Once again, we have independent curator Omar Lopez-Chahoud, who recently worked with Mary Boone’s Amy Smith-Stewart on M*A*S*H NY. Alongside Mr. Lopez-Chahoud is Brooklyn Institute of Contemporary Art (BICA) co-founder and Vassar College professor, Isolde Brielmaier.
The show focuses on a cross section of ten Chilean artists working both in Chile and in New York City, and represents a tempered approach at showing the pulse of a nation that is full of questions and contradictions: like that of a rich artistic history and the responses to it at this stage, after so many years removed by a military dictatorship.
Consider it a show that reintegrates Chileans into the international conversation of contemporary art by asking, “Well, what do these people have to say?”
