Southern Exposure at Dumbo Arts Center
Extended until January 25, 2009.
Sincerest apologies for the hiatus since the end of October. In my primary capacity as an independent curator, November was creation and crunch time for the show I co-curated with Omar Lopez-Chahoud at the Dumbo Arts Center. Only recently, following the curatorial talk, has there been time to get back to posting.
As described on the DAC web site, Omar and I invited eight artists from Latin America (specifically the countries of Argentina and Chile) to produce original, site-specific works in the intoxicatingly expansive 5000 sq. ft. gallery space. A sprawling endeavour that took the better part of a year to prepare, culminating in two exciting weeks with all eight artists-in-residence, this show is a testament to the process and opportunity for talent to thrive despite a dismal economic landscape.
Participating artists:
Argentina
Eduardo Basualdo
Carlos Huffmann
Mariana Lopez
Valeria Maculan
Chile
Maximo Corvalan
Cesar Gabler
Josefina Guilisasti
Francisca Sanchez
